A Book is Afoot
Since 2018, God has been prodding me to write a non-fiction self-help book about work and career. In mid-2024 I decided to just get started. Like a toddler, I’ve been taking wobbly but determined steps since, and God has been faithfully sending inspiration, resources, and the right people and opportunities.
The topic: how to overcome anxiety as a creative entrepreneur using faith-based principles. In this book I will explore the uncertainty, doubt, and fear that so many creative small business owners face when:
They’re questioning their skills
Am I talented enough?
Do I know enough about this field?
Can I do what I’ve promised?
They’re questioning their purpose
Am I meant to be doing this?
Should I be doing this?
Am I doing the right things?
They’re questioning their principles
Am I staying true to my values?
Am I making the right choices?
Is what I’m doing really “me”?
They’re questioning their fate
Will I ever “make it”?
How will I know if I fail? Will it be too late?
What will become of me?
My hope is to provide positive perspective, uplifting encouragement, and practical methods for managing anxiety while running a business based on one’s creative skills. My goal is to create an evergreen book that can be leaned on in one’s early years of entrepreneurship as well as revisited as a familiar touchstone.
Do I even know what I’m doing embarking upon this endeavor? Nope. Am I intimidated, overwhelmed, and scared? Yep. But as long as God keeps opening the doors I’m going to keep toddling along.
If you’d like to join me on my journey, share your thoughts, and receive book updates, send me a message with “Future Reader” in the subject line. I look forward to hearing from you!
I was asked to speak about the book on one of my favorite podcasts, Gifted Underachievers. (See what I mean about God providing opportunities?)
