A Book is Afoot
The Lord has been prodding me since 2018 to write a non-fiction self-help book about work and career. In mid-2024 I decided to just get started. Like a toddler, I’ve been taking wobbly but determined steps since, and God has been faithfully sending inspiration, resources, and the right people and opportunities.
The topic: how to overcome anxiety as a creative entrepreneur using faith-based principles. In this book I will explore the uncertainty, doubt, and fear that many creative small business owners face. As an artist and someone who personally manages generalized anxiety disorder, I will speak to makers of all kinds about the emotional and physiological reactions that inhibit their artistic expression. The book will include:
Easy-to-understand explanations about how anxiety affects our bodies and minds
Faith-based observations and scriptural references
Advice and stories from other creative entrepreneurs
By providing a positive perspective, uplifting encouragement, and practical methods for managing anxiety while running a creativity-based business, my goal is to create an evergreen book that can be leaned on during the early years of entrepreneurship and revisited for years after as a familiar touchstone. Creative small business owners will be able to grow closer to God while increasing awareness about their bodies and minds, revealing the joy in every moment of their career journeys.
Do I even know what I’m doing embarking upon this endeavor? Nope. Am I intimidated, overwhelmed, and scared? Yep. But as long as God keeps opening the doors I’m going to keep toddling along.
If you’d like to join me on my journey, share your thoughts, and receive book updates, send me a message with “Future Reader” in the subject line. I look forward to hearing from you!
I was asked to speak about the book on one of my favorite podcasts, Gifted Underachievers. (See what I mean about God providing opportunities?)
